First of all, there are the positive statements of the book itself, the chief of which we quoted before, 1:1: “The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.” Neither here nor elsewhere in the book is the name of Solomon mentioned. Besides, “king in Jerusalem,” is a title that is nowhere else used in the Scriptures with reference to Solomon.
